October to December Update

We have had a quiet last couple of months with competitions; Ghost has been out a couple of times to compete in dressage but is now on his winter jollies over Christmas and New Year. I think it's important that they get a break as much as we do as well! The four year old has come back into work too and he is going even better than he was before. We have some competitions planned in the new year for Team Quest Dressage it will be lovely for him to start learning the ropes properly now he will be in his fifth year.

The foals have all been weaned, successfully and the ones who are leaving have left for their new homes. All the mares are looking fabulous and hairy, the stallions who will continue work in the spring have re-joined their friends for the winter and round haylage bales are now being used in abundance!

With Christmas quite literally just around the corner, we look back at last December when Petplan Equine arranged training for the sponsored riders and we had the opportunity to get together at Olympia. What a wonderful memory that will stay with us forever.

After two wonderful years, I now say goodbye to Petplan Equine as a sponsor, I didn't re-enter to become an ambassador for a couple of reasons, but I wish my fellow sponsored riders who have applied all the luck in the world for being chosen again. Petplan Equine has been so supportive and such a wonderful company to work alongside, its generosity and help in tricky times has been outstanding and it has helped me raise the profile of my wonderful little stallion, Ghost, and myself as a rider to. I have made lifelong friends who I look forward to staying in touch with.

As my last blog, I just want to wish everyone reading and everyone at Petplan Equine a very happy Christmas and again a massive thank you for everything.

Festive tip

If you can, always carry salt in your car or make sure there is some at the yard! When it's icy and the concrete has frozen, chuck some salt down to make it safe to get your horses in and out of the stable.

When it's cold and you’re working your horse, make sure to take twice as long to warm their muscles up and the same to cool down, an exercise sheet will help too.

On Christmas Day, we all like to spoil our ponies - try not to go too crazy with treats and making up wonderful horse cakes, a sudden change in a feed can cause a poorly tummy and might result in colic. Give them some polos, apples and carrots and a kiss instead. Merry Christmas!!
