April to June Update

So April started off with a bang, being very busy! We began the month by going to drop a broodmare off for one of our liveries at The Renkum Stud, and ended up coming back with a horse to produce for the very prestigious stud; Renkum Fleurette. She is a six year old, who has been backed, but hasn’t done much.

Two days later we were off to Weston Lawns for four days, with four horses, Renkum Fleurette being one of them. They all jumped super and behaved impeccably except Max. Max is the type of horse that likes to make everything difficult. On the night we arrived, it took us two hours to get him into the temporary stables, because he was scared of everything. He then could not cope with the rest of the show, finding it all too exciting every time he came out of the stable! Although he is five, he has the mental age of a three year old. He will come, it is just going to take time.

At the beginning of May we took seven horses to Southview Equestrian Centre for five days. A nice four and a half hour journey in two lorries. The horses travelled up there well, but as we know, horses are not always straight forward. On arriving, one horse got cast, and smacked his leg very hard, and was lame for the rest of the show, and another one wasn’t quite right on the first day, so he did not jump any other day. I always like to save my horses for another day if they aren’t feeling their normal selves. You know your horses better than anyone else, and I always listen to my gut instinct.

We have competed successfully at many shows during the last few months, with lots of winnings and placings. I have a new ride for the summer called Cora Belle, who is a true asset to the team, being placed nearly every time out.

We have being doing the rehabilitation of two horses here, Zebedee and Katie, and I am pleased to say, that both horses, after very long stints of rehabilitation following injury and surgery, are now being ridden again, and both of their owners are delighted.

Unfortunately Troy is injured again, we tried to turn him out for a year in the field, and he has managed to injure himself again. So he is on box rest until September.

Moving into July, we are completely full (17 stables), and now have a wait list. I can’t believe we haven’t been here for a year yet, and how much my business has grown.
