Lucinda Green

Read all about what legendary eventer Lucinda Green has been up to this month.

In spite of her non-healing, painful collar bone, Lissa rode five times at three events before finally submitting to further surgery. She had a good outing with Ali round the difficult Dauntsey Open Intermediate before coming seventh in the same level at Aldon, where, joyously, she and Raffa also won their Novice. Lissa’s now had the bone plated and is soon off to Australia to see her dad.

So, I’m hunting Ali - he was a bit stuck in a rut when he arrived but the freedom of being out in the countryside is doing him the world of good. Daisy, who we hope to sell as a Pre Novice or Show horse next spring, has become my hunter for now. She loves it and it may just be the way through to her lovely but ‘independent’ character. My visit to the Austrian team was positive. We’ve been planning our campaign for next year and it looks like Austria has entrants for the Rural Riders Championships, as well as the Junior, Young Rider and Senior Europeans. They’re realistic about their prospects but have enthusiasm in abundance.

Back home, having spent a fascinating dozen days shadowing stewards to begin to understand the workings of racing, I now have four days probation when I’m an extra on the stewards’ panel. Provided I come up to scratch, I could then eventually be let loose… I just need to make sure my natural tendency to be in sympathy with the jockeys is tempered…
