Lucinda Green

Read all about what legendary eventer Lucinda Green has been up to this month.

It's been a hectic month, starting with great clinics in Germany and Denmark. In both countries I discovered that under their national competition rules, horses compete up to 1* level in one of just a handful of permissible bits - principally boiling down to a choice of a snaffle or a Pelham. It left me wondering the outcome for those horses that don't go well in either.

From Denmark it was back to the UK, to watch Lissa ride her first CIC3* with Ali at Chatsworth. They did a good job in all three phases which was great to see. Next I supported Lissa at Houghton CCI2*- her aim is Blenheim in September which means riding at a number of specified level events in order to qualify. All went well so she's another step closer. Literally as she landed over the last show jump, I dashed off to catch another plane to the US for a series of clinics. I was back in time for our picnic for 25 at Royal Ascot. We ate and drank until it was time to watch the Queen and the Royal procession coming down the course and into the Paddock - spectacularly and quintessentially British. Following a wonderful afternoon of top class racing, with Frankie Dettori achieving his 50th Ascot winner, we returned to the remains of the picnic spoils and did not exit until well into the evening. Now I'm on my way to Vienna and Germany again, for more clinics. After a quick break I will then be heading to China - a first for me. More on that next month.

Tip of the month:
Wash your bits off after every use even if you don't manage a tack clean every day - dirt dries onto the bit, potentially making your horse's mouth uncomfortable, and it's then really hard to clean.
